The high performance of the BMW S 1000 XR results from a strong engine/transmission combination. The engine is a liquid-cooled, 999 cc inline-four with four valves per cylinder and DOHC. This is mated with a six-speed gearbox, a slip/assist clutch, and optimized Shift Assist Pro. This powerful combination cranks out 170 horsepower and 84 lb.-ft. of torque. There are other performance-enhancing features included on the S 1000 XR.
