BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Concept Brings Big Tech to Two Wheels

BMW ConnectedRide Concept

BMW Motorrad has announced a new concept that will bring digitization and connectivity tools, which are much-appreciated by BMW automobile drivers, to its line of premium motorcycles. Drivers of BMW cars, SAVs, and sports wagons have long had their commutes made easier thanks to BMW’s Connected App , which is a digital mobility assistant. BMW motorcycle riders will soon get their own taste of this life-simplifying suite of features.

The Technology Behind the Feature

BMW ConnectedRide, recently announced at the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy, features a large, all-in-one TFT instrument cluster that displays the system’s menu alongside digitized gauges. High-visibility icons populate the easy-to-use menu of connectivity features, including navigation and calling. This is all accomplished thanks to wireless technology that not only links a rider’s smartphone to the bike’s display, but ties in the technology of the BMW System 7 helmet worn by the rider and passenger.

Connectivity Mirroring Others in the BMW Family

The BMW ConnectedRide system is operated with a multi-controller on the handlebars similar to what is found in BMW vehicles that use the ConnectedDrive system. The connectivity system links to the BMW System 7 helmet’s microphone and speakers to provide hands-free calling, music options, and directions. Because the BMW Connected system has already been perfected in four-wheeled BMW vehicles, the engineering head-start is streamlining and accelerating the introduction of the technology on BMW Motorrad products.

Connecting the BMW CommunityConnecting the BMW Motorcycle Community

Not only does BMW ConnectedRide connect rider with pillion, it connects the rider with the wider community of bikers in 199 countries thanks to the Rever app. The Rever app allows users to log trips, post routes, and connect to social media.

ECALL Function Hastens Emergency Response

A potentially life-saving feature of BMW ConnectedRide is ECALL, an optional emergency call function that automatically or manually alerts emergency personnel of a crash and provides location coordinates. In an emergency, seconds can make a world of difference. The “Intelligent Emergency Call” feature built into ConnectedRide can help get paramedics on the scene sooner than ever before possible.
