Get ready to adventure in a new way. BMW Motorrad’s mid-tier travel enduro bikes, the F 750 GS and the F 850 GS are getting a major overhaul for the 2018 model year. This complete redesign and re-engineering marks the next chapter for the decade-old models, and brings out the best of a motorcycle platform riders have grown to know and love.

The bikes could be considered fraternal twins. While the F 750 GS is aimed more at the travel enduro rider who looks for cost-effectiveness and well-rounded capabilities, the F 850 GS is the uncompromising off-roader and touring bike with more power on the street and on the trail. These two bikes are born from the same cloth, but each has its own unique characteristics and personality.

A New Engine Powers Next-Gen Bikes

At the heart of these bikes is the new two-cylinder 853cc inline engine that puts out 77 horsepower in the F 750 GS and is tuned up to 95 horsepower in the F 850 GS. New engine features including two counterbalance shafts and a smooth-operating, self-amplifying, anti-hopping clutch. These features mean even with this impeccable level of power, rider comfort and control are not diminished.

Monocoque Construction Keeps It All Together

The skeleton of the F 750 GS and F 850 GS uses the latest engineering practices to maintain rigidity and stability while keeping weight and bulk to a minimum. A bridge frame incorporates that powerful engine as a structural element, leveraging the engine to lend its rock-solid construction to the overall architecture of the bike. The end result is a graceful and easy-to-manage package with a great center of gravity.

Riding Modes Ensure You’re Always in Control

Another new feature of these next generation bikes is a selectable riding mode function that includes standard Road and Rain modes with the option to add Dynamic and Enduro modes. The Enduro Pro riding mode is available only on the F 850 GS. ABS and automatic stability control are standard safety features, dynamic traction control and ABS Pro can be fitted as options.
