BMW Motorrad had quite the presence over the weekend at the inaugural Moto Beach Classic in Huntington Beach, where custom bike builders and local gearheads gathered to tear up the track and show off their work.

The weekend was jam-packed with everything on two wheels from the Art Collective and Bike Show by Iron and Air to the beachfront Super Hooligan National Championship race series presented in part by Roland Sand Designs.

Probably the most thrilling event was the BMW Motorrad-hosted Salty Sprint Races, a blistering ⅛-mile sprint on a narrow strip of asphalt parallel to the beach. Racers on stripped-down BMW R nineT Pure bikes raced head to head – popping wheelies and turning heads while vying for the coveted Boxer on Boxer Cup.

Watching these white-knuckle BMW face-off go down was legendary bike designer and racer Roland Sands of Los Alamitos-based Roland Sands Design, as well as BMW Motorrad designers Ola Stenegard and Roland Stocker.

Stenegard, head of vehicle design at BMW Motorrad, and Stocker, the BMW R nineT project leader, both looked on during the Salty Sprint Races event to see the machines they put their heart and soul into being pushed to the limits on the track.
